Bulloch County was created from Bryan and Screven Counties by an Act of the general assembly February 8 th 1796.

Originally, Bulloch County contained part of Evans, Candler, Emanuel, and Jenkins Counties .
The City of Statesboro is the county seat of Bulloch County .
Bulloch County is approximately 682 square miles.
Population for 2000 was 55,983 and is now estimated to be approximately 60,344
According to the 2000 census, the County is 68.7% Caucasian, 28.8% African American, 1.9% Hispanic, and .8% Asian or other.
Those 18 years of age or older are 77.7% of the population and those 65 years of age and older are 9.3% of population.
The 2005 median per capita income was $21,678.
The Unemployment rate for 2005 was 4.4% in comparison to the state of Georgia rate of 5%.
Approximately 24% of the Bulloch County labor force is employed by the government sector including one of the County's largest employers, Georgia Southern University.
Four largest private sector employers are Briggs & Stratton, Wal-Mart Associates, Inc., Pineland Area Community Service Board, and East Georgia Regional Medical Center .
Two institutions of higher learning are Georgia Southern University and Ogeechee Technical College .
The County operates under the Commissioners-Manager form of government, established by a 1997 Charter Amendment.
The Chairman and the Board Commissioners are elected by districts. All elections are non-partisan and the terms are for four years, on staggered terms, with election every two years.
The County Manager is appointed to head the administrative functions of the County government.
First County officers were commissioned on March 25, 1796, as follows: Charles McCall Jr., Sheriff, Andrew E. Wells, Clerk Sup. Ct. , George Elliot, Clerk Inf. Ct. , Francis Wells, Register of Probate, James Bird, surveyor, and Garrott Williams, Coroner.
